Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 192.28 18th percentile: above 18% of its previous 81 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 2.07% 38th percentile: above 38% of its previous 66 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Boeing

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Boeing is one half of the duopoly in large commercial aircraft, with Airbus the other. The commercial division builds the single-aisle 737 family and the wide-body 767, 777 and 787, and carries a backlog of orders that stretches years ahead. A defence, space and security division supplies military aircraft, tankers, helicopters, weapons and satellites, much of it to the US government. A global services division sells spare parts, maintenance, training and data to airlines and air forces, and has been the steadiest earner of the three. Commercial jets account for the largest share of the investment story, if not always of the profits.

What drives it

Demand is not the constraint; the backlog shows airlines want more jets than are being made. The variables are how fast Boeing can produce them and whether it can do so to a standard that satisfies the Federal Aviation Administration, which in recent years has capped production rates and scrutinised the company’s quality systems directly. Because airlines pay a large part of the price on delivery, deliveries drive cash flow, and free cash flow has become the figure the market leans on more than reported earnings. Certification of new models and variants has repeatedly slipped, and each delay defers revenue and adds cost. The defence business has its own difficulty: several fixed-price development contracts have produced losses that arrive as large charges. Labour agreements with a heavily unionised workforce, the health of its suppliers, trade disputes in which aircraft orders become bargaining chips, and a balance sheet carrying substantial debt complete the list.

How it trades through the day

Regular trading runs from 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and from 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter, and quarterly results come before the US open. Between results, monthly order and delivery figures give the share a schedule of interim datapoints. Boeing is unusually exposed to unscheduled news: a regulator statement, an incident involving one of its aircraft or a report of a production problem can land at any hour and reprice the shares within minutes. Airbus, trading in Paris through the London block, often provides an early read on sector news before New York opens.

What it tends to move with

Its production rate is income for the rest of the aerospace chain, so engine makers such as GE Aerospace and RTX, along with the airframe parts suppliers, tend to respond to its news. Airbus is the peer that sometimes gains from Boeing’s difficulties rather than sharing them. As a constituent of the price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average, it can move that index noticeably on a day of heavy company news.

BA: questions

What is the price of Boeing today?

BA was quoted at $188.35 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 0.43% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is BA?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 2.07% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move BA makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in BA unusual?

What is Boeing?

Boeing builds commercial airliners, military aircraft and space systems, and its shares turn on how many jets it can build and deliver to a standard its regulator will accept.
