Each figure is the front-month futures contract. Commodities are driven by physical supply and demand as much as by financial flows, and their behaviour differs sharply by complex: energy moves with inventories and geopolitics, grains and softs with weather and harvests. Prices are quoted in each contract's own convention — cents per bushel for grains, dollars per barrel for crude — and percentage moves are always computed within one contract's own series.
