About the Japanese Yen
The yen has historically strengthened when global risk appetite falls, as investors unwind positions funded in low-yielding yen. Its value is also closely tied to the gap between Japanese and overseas interest rates, and to the Bank of Japan's policy on government-bond yields. The yen crosses combine those two forces, which is why they are among the most volatile pairs on the board.
