Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 551.51 64th percentile: above 64% of its previous 81 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 1.51% 33rd percentile: above 33% of its previous 66 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Lockheed Martin

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Lockheed Martin designs and builds military aircraft, missiles, helicopters and space systems. Aeronautics, the largest segment, is anchored by the F-35 stealth fighter, the biggest weapons programme in the Pentagon’s portfolio, along with the F-16 and the C-130 transport. Missiles and Fire Control produces interceptors, rocket artillery and precision weapons. Rotary and Mission Systems includes Sikorsky helicopters and naval radar and combat systems. Space builds satellites, strategic missiles for the US Navy and spacecraft for NASA. The US government, including the foreign military sales it arranges on behalf of allies, accounts for the large majority of revenue.

What drives it

Revenue is set by government budgets and contracts rather than by the economy, which is why the shares behave so differently from other industrials. The annual US defence appropriations process matters a great deal: delayed budgets and stopgap funding hold back new programmes, while a sustained rise in spending lifts the whole sector. International demand has grown as allies have raised their defence budgets, and the time it takes to restock missile inventories has made production capacity an important variable in its own right. The F-35 dominates the risk profile, as its delivery pace, sustainment costs and upgrade schedule affect a significant part of revenue for years at a time. Fixed-price development contracts are a recurring hazard, since cost overruns land on the contractor and are booked as charges that can erase a quarter’s profit. Margins are structurally modest and steady, so the shares are often held for the dividend and buybacks rather than for growth.

How it trades through the day

The share trades in New York’s regular session, 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter, and results come before the open. Geopolitical events are the main unscheduled driver: escalation abroad can lift defence names on days when the broader market falls. Budget negotiations in Washington and procurement policy statements add a political calendar, and the Pentagon’s daily list of contract awards is typically published after the New York close, so large awards tend to show up in the following session.

What it tends to move with

Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics and RTX’s Raytheon business are its closest peers, and the group moves together on budget news. European defence companies, trading in the London block, tend to respond to the same geopolitical developments first. Its relationship with the broad equity market is weak, and it has often acted as a defensive holding when cyclical stocks fall.

LMT: questions

What is the price of Lockheed Martin today?

LMT was quoted at $604.18 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 2.42% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is LMT?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.51% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move LMT makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in LMT unusual?

Today's move is +1.6σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind it has roughly twice a month. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does LMT move with?
