The read
Over its last 20 sessions LLY has moved 1.82% on a typical day, making it about as volatile as most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).
That makes the last 24 hours a −1.4σ session for LLY — the kind it has roughly once a week.
It sits in the lower half of its 24-hour range of 1,265.24–1,309, measured on hourly closes.
Most of the move came in the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC), which accounted for about 85% of the day's price action.
Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with ABBV (+0.65, a strong relationship), and most inversely to AMD (−0.45).
Its last close is at the 98th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 46th.

About Eli Lilly
Revised 2026-10-07What it is
Lilly has been making medicines in Indianapolis since the nineteenth century and was among the first companies to produce insulin commercially in the 1920s. Diabetes has stayed central ever since, and the business is now dominated by incretin medicines, drugs that mimic gut hormones regulating blood sugar and appetite. Its tirzepatide is sold as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management, and the obesity market is now the main reason investors own the shares. Beyond that franchise it works in oncology, immunology and neuroscience, including Alzheimer’s disease. The concentration is the point to understand: a large and rising share of revenue comes from one class of medicine.
What drives it
For a period demand outran supply, so sales were limited by how many injectable pens could be filled, and manufacturing capacity became a valuation input; the company has committed very large sums to new plants. As supply has caught up, attention has shifted to price and access: whether employers, insurers and government programmes will pay for weight-loss treatment, how much the net price falls as coverage widens, and how much demand cash-pay channels can serve. US drug-pricing policy can therefore move the shares sharply. Competition comes mainly from Novo Nordisk, and the race now extends to pills and next-generation injections, so clinical readouts from either company are among the largest single events for the stock. Because the valuation assumes many years of growth, the shares are also more sensitive to interest rates than most of the sector.
How it trades through the day
Results are released before the US open, and trial data often arrives the same way, by press release ahead of the bell or at medical congresses such as the American Diabetes Association meeting in June. News from Novo Nordisk usually comes during European hours, so the London block can set Lilly’s direction before New York trades. The US cash session runs 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter.
What it tends to move with
Novo Nordisk is the decisive comparison. The two tend to move together on news about the size and pricing of the obesity market, and in opposite directions on head-to-head clinical or commercial news. It often behaves more like the large technology growth shares than like its pharmaceutical peers.
LLY: questions
What is the price of Eli Lilly today?
LLY was quoted at $1,273.46 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 2.54% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.
How volatile is LLY?
Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.82% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move LLY makes on an ordinary day.
Is today's move in LLY unusual?
Today's move is −1.4σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind it has roughly once a week. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.
What does LLY move with?
Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with ABBV, at a correlation of +0.65. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.
When does LLY move the most?
Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 85% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.
What is Eli Lilly?
Eli Lilly is an Indianapolis drugmaker whose diabetes and obesity medicines have turned it into one of the fastest-growing large companies in healthcare, and its shares trade more like a growth stock than a pharmaceutical one.
