Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 29.85 99th percentile: above 99% of its previous 81 readings near its high
  2. 20-day volatility 1.21% 42nd percentile: above 42% of its previous 66 readings
  3. Distance from 20-day average +4.30% 71st percentile: above 71% of its previous 62 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Pfizer

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Pfizer, founded in New York in 1849, has narrowed itself over the past decade into a company that sells only innovative medicines and vaccines. It combined its off-patent generics unit with Mylan to form Viatris, and its consumer-health products went into a joint venture with GSK that was later listed as Haleon. What remains spans vaccines, including a long-standing pneumococcal franchise; oncology, which it expanded through acquisition into antibody-drug conjugates that deliver chemotherapy directly to cancer cells; cardiovascular and internal medicine, including an anticoagulant marketed in alliance with Bristol Myers Squibb; inflammation and immunology; and rare diseases. During the pandemic it developed a covid vaccine with BioNTech and an oral antiviral, which for a short period made it one of the highest-revenue drugmakers in the world.

What drives it

The shares spent several years unwinding that pandemic surge. Covid sales fell steeply as demand normalised, and earnings were reset lower. The next challenge was already visible behind it: several of its larger medicines lose exclusivity in the second half of this decade, so the investment case rests on whether newer products and acquired pipelines can replace that revenue in time. The company has paired that effort with cost-reduction programmes. The dividend is a large part of why people own the shares, and its coverage by earnings is a recurring question whenever guidance is cut. US policy matters on two fronts, drug-price negotiation under Medicare and the direction of federal vaccine recommendations, which shape demand for a business where vaccines are an unusually large share.

How it trades through the day

It has a very large number of shares in issue and trades in heavy volume, with modest daily percentage moves. Results are released before the US open, and the cash session runs 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in the northern summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. Vaccine advisory meetings and regulatory decisions follow their own calendar.

What it tends to move with

It trades with the large US drugmakers, Merck, Bristol Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson. Its link to BioNTech and Moderna, strong during the pandemic, has weakened as covid revenue has shrunk. As an income share it sometimes moves with other high-dividend value names, and can respond to bond yields in the same way.

PFE: questions

What is the price of Pfizer today?

PFE was quoted at $30.03 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 1.28% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is PFE?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.21% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move PFE makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in PFE unusual?

What is Pfizer?

Pfizer is one of the largest US drugmakers, spanning vaccines, oncology and hospital and cardiovascular medicines, and its shares have been shaped by the rise and fall of its pandemic products and an approaching wave of patent expiries.
