The read

On an ordinary day over the last month of trading, INTC has moved about 3.00%, making it one of the most volatile of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).

Measured against its own habit, today is a +0.6σ day: the kind of session it has most weeks.

It sits in the upper half of its 24-hour range of 84.76–87.61, measured on hourly closes.

The move was spread across the day rather than concentrated in one session; London contributed the largest share, about 42%.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with AMD (+0.79, a strong relationship), and most inversely to ABBV (−0.48).

Its last close is at the 27th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 6th, near the bottom of its range for the period.

Market read: Intel is seeing moderate gains, largely driven by a strong performance during the London session.

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Intel

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Intel is the original x86 processor company and one of the few chipmakers that both designs and fabricates its products. The product side sells central processors for laptops, desktops and servers. The manufacturing side, Intel Foundry, runs its fabrication plants and is trying to sell leading-edge capacity to outside designers, competing for work that currently goes overwhelmingly to the Taiwanese foundry. That dual role defines the company: it is a customer of its own factories, a would-be supplier to rivals and, for some products, itself a buyer of outside foundry capacity. Its fabs are in the United States, Ireland and Israel.

What drives it

The investment case turns on process technology. Over several years Intel lost its manufacturing lead, and with it share in PCs and servers to a competitor that buys capacity from the leading foundry. Each new node is scrutinised for yields and timing, because the foundry strategy depends on proving Intel can again build at the frontier, and announcements of external foundry customers have moved the shares more than many quarterly reports. The product businesses fund this effort, so PC demand and server share matter as sources of cash. Running fabs below full scale weighs on gross margin, and the strain has shown up in repeated cost-cutting. Industrial policy matters too: domestic leading-edge production is a stated US priority and Intel is the main candidate to provide it, so subsidy decisions and government involvement bear on it directly.

How it trades through the day

It changes hands in the US cash session, 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. Results come after the close, and the reaction has often turned on guidance and foundry commentary rather than the quarter just reported. Headlines about strategic investors, government support or manufacturing partnerships have arrived at irregular times and produced some of its largest daily moves.

What it tends to move with

It is part of the semiconductor complex but often a weak member, following its own story while the group trades on AI demand. The relationship with AMD is the most informative: share shifts between the two in PC and server processors have historically sent them in opposite directions. It also responds to trade and industrial-policy news that leaves most of the sector untouched.

INTC: questions

What is the price of Intel today?

INTC was quoted at $86.96 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 1.72% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is INTC?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 3.00% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move INTC makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in INTC unusual?

Today's move is +0.6σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does INTC move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with AMD, at a correlation of +0.79. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does INTC move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the London session (07:00–13:00 UTC) carried about 42% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Intel?

Intel designs and manufactures its own processors for PCs and servers, and is trying to build a contract manufacturing business that makes chips for other companies.
