A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Taiwan Semiconductor
Revised 2026-10-07What it is
TSMC is a contract manufacturer of semiconductors. It sells no chips under its own name; it fabricates designs supplied by customers, including most of the large fabless companies in the US market. The pure-foundry model it pioneered is what allows a chip designer to reach the most advanced process without owning a factory. It also sells advanced packaging, which bonds accelerators to high-bandwidth memory and has become a bottleneck of its own. Most production is in Taiwan, with plants built or under construction in the United States, Japan and Germany. The ordinary shares trade in Taipei; the symbol here is the American depositary receipt listed in New York, each representing a fixed number of those shares.
What drives it
Utilisation and leading-edge pricing set the profit line. A foundry carries enormous fixed costs, so gross margin swings with how full the factories are, and the newest nodes command the highest prices while they remain scarce. Capital-expenditure guidance is read twice: as the company’s view of demand and as an order book for its equipment suppliers. Over all of this sits a geopolitical overlay no other large chip share carries to the same degree: tension across the Taiwan Strait, and US rules on which customers may receive advanced chips, can move the receipts with no change in demand. Revenue is also published monthly.
How it trades through the day
Two lines trade in two blocks. The Taipei shares trade in the Asia block, roughly 01:00 to 05:30 UTC all year; the receipt trades in the New York block, 13:30 to 20:00 UTC during US daylight time and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. Quarterly results come out in the Taiwanese afternoon, so the receipt’s first reaction is in pre-market dealing and at the opening auction. The receipt has historically traded at a premium to the local shares, a gap that moves with foreign demand.
What it tends to move with
It sits at the centre of the semiconductor complex, downstream of the lithography and equipment makers and upstream of the accelerator and handset designers it builds for, so news at either end reaches it. Its results arrive early in each reporting season and set the tone for the group. At home it is by far the heaviest weight in the Taiwanese benchmark.
TSM: questions
What is the price of Taiwan Semiconductor today?
TSM was quoted at $418.51 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 1.49% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.
How volatile is TSM?
Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.85% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move TSM makes on an ordinary day.
Is today's move in TSM unusual?
Today's move is +0.8σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.
What does TSM move with?
Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with NDX, at a correlation of +0.79. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.
When does TSM move the most?
Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 57% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.
What is Taiwan Semiconductor?
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing fabricates chips that other companies design, including most of the world's leading-edge processors, and the line tracked here is its New York-listed depositary receipt.
