The read

Over its last 20 sessions MU has moved 2.79% on a typical day, making it livelier than most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).

That makes the last 24 hours a +0.9σ session for MU — the kind of session it has most weeks.

It sits near the top of its 24-hour range of 845.68–886.2, measured on hourly closes.

The London block (07:00–13:00 UTC) did most of the work — roughly 58% of the movement over the last 24 hours.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with TSM (+0.73, a strong relationship), and most inversely to VIX (−0.52).

Its last close is at the 26th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 2nd, near the bottom of its range for the period.

Market read: Micron is riding the tech wave, with significant gains fueled by strong performance in the London and New York sessions.

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Micron Technology

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Micron is one of the three large producers of DRAM, the working memory in every computer and phone, and a significant maker of NAND flash, the storage inside solid-state drives and handsets. Unlike most of the US semiconductor group it owns and runs its own fabrication plants, in the United States and across Asia, so it carries the full capital cost of manufacturing rather than paying a foundry. Its newest growth line is high-bandwidth memory: DRAM dies stacked vertically and packaged next to an AI accelerator, where the bandwidth between memory and processor often limits performance.

What drives it

Memory price is the variable. Standard DRAM and NAND are close to commodities, largely interchangeable between suppliers, so pricing follows the balance of supply and demand, and that balance swings hard. When the industry adds capacity faster than demand grows, prices fall steeply and inventories pile up; when it holds back, prices recover and margins expand quickly. The shares tend to anticipate these turns, often rising while reported earnings are still poor and falling while they still look strong. High-bandwidth memory has altered the cycle somewhat, because it consumes more wafer capacity per bit than standard DRAM, tightening supply for everything else. A supplier must also pass an accelerator maker’s qualification before it can ship, so share among the three turns on who qualifies for each generation first.

How it trades through the day

Trading runs through the US cash session, from 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in the summer months and an hour later at both ends once US clocks go back. Its fiscal year closes at the end of August, so its quarterly reports arrive weeks before most of the semiconductor group’s, and the after-hours reaction is often read as an early verdict on the sector’s quarter. Spot and contract memory quotes published by industry researchers can move the shares on days with no company news.

What it tends to move with

Its closest relationships are with the two Korean memory producers, whose shares trade in Seoul during the Asia block and so often price a Micron result before New York can respond. It also tracks the broad semiconductor indices, more volatile than the large chip designers, and on AI news it increasingly moves with the accelerator makers its memory sits beside.

MU: questions

What is the price of Micron Technology today?

MU was quoted at $877.55 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 2.46% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is MU?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 2.79% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move MU makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in MU unusual?

Today's move is +0.9σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does MU move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with TSM, at a correlation of +0.73. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does MU move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the London session (07:00–13:00 UTC) carried about 58% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Micron Technology?

Micron makes memory and storage chips, including the high-bandwidth memory packaged beside AI accelerators, in a market where prices rise and fall with an industry-wide supply cycle.
