The read

Over its last 20 sessions ZT has moved 0.09% on a typical day, making it one of the calmer of the rates Kinzan tracks (their median is 0.71%).

That makes the last 24 hours a −0.8σ session for ZT — the kind of session it has most weeks.

It sits in the lower half of its 24-hour range of 102.0664–102.1406, measured on hourly closes.

The move was spread across the day rather than concentrated in one session; New York contributed the largest share, about 44%.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with ZN (+0.82, a very strong relationship), and most inversely to US5Y (−0.83).

Its last close is at the 31st percentile of its own last 83 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 100th, near the top of its range for the period.

Market read: 2-Year T-Notes are slightly lower, reflecting a cautious stance in the rates market.

Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 83 sessions

  1. Close 102.1367 31st percentile: above 31% of its previous 82 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 0.09% 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 67 readings near its high
  3. Distance from 20-day average +0.25% 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 63 readings near its high

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About 2-Year T-Note Futures

Revised 2026-10-05

What it is

An exchange-traded contract on short-dated United States Treasury notes, quoting a price and therefore moving inversely to the two-year yield. Its face value per contract is substantially larger than the longer-dated contracts in the complex, a deliberate design choice that offsets how little the price of a two-year note moves: a larger notional is required for the contract to carry a comparable amount of risk.

What drives it

Two years spans the realistic horizon of a policy cycle, which makes this the contract that reacts most directly to the central bank’s expected path. Employment and inflation releases move it immediately, and policy meetings move it more than they move anything further out on the curve. Where the ten-year contains an opinion about the next decade, this one contains an opinion about the next several meetings, and that opinion changes more often.

There is a reading trap here worth stating plainly, because it bears on how this instrument appears on a ranked board. Short-dated notes have very low duration, so a large move in yield produces a small move in price. A day in which the two-year yield shifts by twenty basis points, which is a substantial repricing of monetary policy, might show as a price change of well under half a percent. Ranked against equities or crude by percentage move, it would look like one of the quietest instruments on the board on a day it was one of the busiest. The volatility and surprise figures are the better guide, because both measure the move against this instrument’s own history rather than against markets with entirely different risk characteristics.

How it trades through the day

It trades nearly around the clock on the electronic exchange. Volume concentrates sharply in the minutes following US data at 13:30 UTC and around policy announcements, with comparatively quiet conditions in between.

What it tends to move with

Inversely to the short end of the yield curve, and in the same direction as the longer contracts though with far smaller price swings. Its spread against the ten-year note contract is one of the most actively traded expressions of a view on curve shape, and the two frequently move by very different magnitudes on the same news.

ZT: questions

What is the price of 2-Year T-Note Futures today?

ZT was quoted at 102.086 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 0.08% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is ZT?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 0.09% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move ZT makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in ZT unusual?

Today's move is −0.8σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does ZT move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with ZN, at a correlation of +0.82. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does ZT move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 44% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is 2-Year T-Note Futures?

The front-month two-year Treasury note futures contract, the most policy-sensitive instrument in the complex and the one whose percentage moves most understate what happened.
