The read

Over its last 20 sessions HD has moved 1.56% on a typical day, making it a little calmer than most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).

That makes the last 24 hours a −1.6σ session for HD — the kind it has roughly twice a month.

It sits in the lower half of its 24-hour range of 317.82–327.3, measured on hourly closes.

The New York block (13:00–22:00 UTC) did most of the work — roughly 65% of the movement over the last 24 hours.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with ZB (+0.62, a strong relationship), and most inversely to US30Y (−0.65).

Its last close is at the 37th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 52nd.

Market read: Home Depot is underperforming, with consistent selling pressure dragging the stock toward the bottom of its range.

Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 314.14 37th percentile: above 37% of its previous 81 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 1.56% 52nd percentile: above 52% of its previous 66 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Home Depot

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Home Depot runs large warehouse-format stores across the United States, Canada and Mexico, selling timber and building materials, tools, plumbing and electrical supplies, paint, appliances and garden products, with an online operation that draws on the same inventory and delivery network. Its customers fall into two broad camps: homeowners doing their own projects, and professional contractors, remodellers and tradespeople who buy in volume and return week after week. The professional customer is now the strategic priority, pursued through specialist trade distribution and dedicated delivery facilities. The company earns its money on the upkeep and improvement of existing homes rather than on new construction.

What drives it

Housing turnover matters more than housebuilding. People who buy or sell a home tend to spend on it, and owners who have watched their property gain in value take on larger projects, so both existing-home sales and home equity feed demand. Each depends heavily on mortgage rates, which is why the shares often respond to Treasury yields as readily as to retail data. An ageing US housing stock provides a steady floor of repair work. Within a quarter, investors separate comparable sales into the number of transactions and the average ticket: a rising ticket can simply reflect inflation in timber or copper prices, while large discretionary jobs such as kitchen remodels are the first to be postponed when households feel uncertain. Weather shows up too. A cold or wet spring delays the most important selling season, and storm damage can lift sales in the regions affected.

How it trades through the day

The cash session runs 13:30 to 20:00 UTC through the northern summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC once US clocks go back. Quarterly results are published before the opening bell, so the reaction forms in pre-market trading and arrives in full at the open. Because the shares answer to rates, US inflation and jobs figures released an hour before the open often set the tone.

What it tends to move with

Lowe’s is the natural comparison, and the two usually move together on housing news. It also trades alongside the homebuilders and building-products manufacturers, and tends to move against mortgage rates. It is a constituent of the Dow Jones Industrial Average as well as the S&P 500.
