The read
Over its last 20 sessions MA has moved 1.09% on a typical day, making it a little calmer than most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).
That makes the last 24 hours a −1.4σ session for MA — the kind it has roughly once a week.
It sits in the lower half of its 24-hour range of 620.69–634.36, measured on hourly closes.
The New York block (13:00–22:00 UTC) did most of the work — roughly 60% of the movement over the last 24 hours.
Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with V (+0.87, a very strong relationship), and most inversely to KOSPI (−0.42).
Its last close is at the 100th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 21st.
Market read: Mastercard is hitting the bottom of its range, suffering from persistent selling pressure in New York.

- Close 622.62 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 81 readings near its high

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Mastercard
Revised 2026-10-07What it is
Mastercard routes card payments between the bank that serves a merchant and the bank that issued the card, and is paid by both for the authorisation, clearing and settlement it provides. Like its larger rival, it lends nothing and carries no cardholder credit risk. Two features set it apart. First, its business is more international, with a larger proportion of payment volume and revenue coming from Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East than is the case at Visa. Second, it has built a substantial services business on top of the network: fraud prevention and cyber security, data analytics and consulting, loyalty programmes, and open-banking services. That side has grown faster than the core network for years and gives it something to sell where card use is already mature.
What drives it
Because so much of its business sits outside the United States, it is more exposed to European and emerging-market consumption and to the dollar, which affects reported results when foreign revenue is converted. Cross-border spending is the richest revenue line, so the summer travel season and the health of international tourism show up clearly in its numbers. Europe carries a specific regulatory history: the European Union capped interchange fees on consumer cards in 2015, and policymakers there have since debated domestic payment schemes and a digital euro as ways to reduce reliance on American networks. It is a long-dated question rather than an immediate threat. So far the move to phone-based payment and tokenised cards has run through the networks rather than around them.
How it trades through the day
Mastercard reports on a calendar-year basis and releases results before the US open, usually within days of Visa. US regular trading hours are 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. Because it is the more international of the pair, news on the euro and European consumer data from the London block can shape its opening.
What it tends to move with
It moves in close step with Visa, and the gap between them is usually explained by the difference in geographic mix. American Express and the large payment processors are looser comparisons. European payment shares trade earlier but, as processors with different economics, are only a rough guide.
MA: questions
What is the price of Mastercard today?
MA was quoted at $623.60 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 1.52% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.
How volatile is MA?
Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.09% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move MA makes on an ordinary day.
Is today's move in MA unusual?
Today's move is −1.4σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind it has roughly once a week. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.
What does MA move with?
Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with V, at a correlation of +0.87. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.
When does MA move the most?
Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 60% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.
What is Mastercard?
Mastercard operates the second-largest of the global card networks after Visa, and earns a larger share of its revenue outside the United States than its rival, with a fast-growing services arm alongside the network.
