Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 111.83 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 81 readings near its high
  2. 20-day volatility 1.25% 3rd percentile: above 3% of its previous 66 readings near its low
  3. Distance from 20-day average +4.56% 76th percentile: above 76% of its previous 62 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Walt Disney

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Disney reports three businesses. Entertainment holds the film studios, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century, the ABC network and cable channels, and the Disney+ and Hulu streaming services. Sports is ESPN, across cable, broadcast and streaming. Experiences covers theme parks and resorts in the United States, Europe and Asia (some owned outright, some run through partnerships or licensing), a cruise line and consumer products. The logic tying them together is that a character can be earned on many times over: in cinemas, on streaming, as merchandise and finally as a ride. In recent years Experiences has supplied the largest share of operating income, which makes the company more of a leisure business than its studio history suggests.

What drives it

The parks set the tone. Attendance, spending per visitor, hotel occupancy and cruise bookings are read as a gauge of US household discretionary spending, and the division needs heavy, multi-year capital investment to expand parks and the cruise fleet, so the market watches returns on that spending closely. Streaming has moved from a race for subscribers to a question of profitability, with price increases, advertising tiers and limits on account sharing the main levers. Traditional television is in structural decline as households cancel cable, eroding the fees and advertising that once funded much of the group, while ESPN’s costs rise with the price of sports rights. The film slate makes studio results lumpy from quarter to quarter. Leadership succession has been a recurring source of uncertainty in its own right.

How it trades through the day

Disney’s fiscal year ends around the start of October. Quarterly results arrive outside regular hours, so the reaction appears either side of the US cash session, which runs 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. Between results, park pricing, sports-rights deals and box-office weekends can move the shares, the last traded at the Monday open.

What it tends to move with

Comcast, which also owns theme parks and a studio, is its closest structural peer. On streaming it trades with Netflix, and on traditional media with Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount. Its parks link it to cruise operators and hotel groups. It is a Dow Jones Industrial Average constituent.

DIS: questions

What is the price of Walt Disney today?

DIS was quoted at $112.52 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 0.54% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is DIS?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.25% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move DIS makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in DIS unusual?

Today's move is −0.4σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is an entirely ordinary session. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does DIS move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with NFLX, at a correlation of +0.55. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does DIS move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 69% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Walt Disney?

Walt Disney combines theme parks and cruises, film and television studios, streaming services and the ESPN sports networks, and in recent years the parks have done much of the earning.
