The read

Over its last 20 sessions V has moved 1.16% on a typical day, making it a little calmer than most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).

That makes the last 24 hours a −1.3σ session for V — the kind it has roughly once a week.

It sits near the bottom of its 24-hour range of 407.77–414.84, measured on hourly closes.

The New York block (13:00–22:00 UTC) did most of the work — roughly 56% of the movement over the last 24 hours.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with MA (+0.87, a very strong relationship).

Its last close is at the 100th percentile of its own last 82 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 30th.

Market read: Visa is drifting toward the bottom of its range, pressured by consistent selling in London and New York.

Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 407.85 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 81 readings near its high
  2. 20-day volatility 1.16% 30th percentile: above 30% of its previous 66 readings
  3. Distance from 20-day average +7.07% 95th percentile: above 95% of its previous 62 readings near its high

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Visa

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Visa is a network, not a lender. When a cardholder pays, the transaction runs from the merchant’s bank across Visa’s systems to the bank that issued the card, which approves it, and the money settles back the other way. The issuing bank chooses who gets a card, sets the interest rate and absorbs any losses; Visa sets the rules, operates the rails and charges both sides for using them. Its revenue comes in four broad streams: service fees tied to payment volume, data-processing fees charged per transaction, international transaction fees on cross-border payments and currency conversion, and value-added services such as fraud scoring and tokenisation. Against those it pays incentives to banks and large merchants to win or keep card programmes. Because an extra transaction costs almost nothing to process, operating margins are very high.

What drives it

The long shift from cash and cheques to cards and digital wallets is the structural tailwind, with room left to run in many economies. Revenue tracks the nominal value of spending, so inflation raises it as well as real growth. Cross-border business is the most profitable stream, which makes international travel a key variable, and currency volatility can add to conversion revenue. The risks are mostly legal and political. Interchange, the fee a merchant’s bank pays the card issuer on each purchase, is not kept by Visa, but merchant lawsuits and legislation over it target the networks that set it. The US Justice Department has also brought antitrust claims over its debit business. Longer term, real-time account-to-account systems and stablecoins are possible routes around the card rails.

How it trades through the day

Visa’s fiscal year ends on 30 September, and results are released after the US close. The cash session runs 13:30 to 20:00 UTC during US daylight saving time and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC otherwise, so the after-hours reaction to results falls within the New York block. Realised volatility is low, and between results consumer spending data and regulatory headlines do most of the moving.

What it tends to move with

Mastercard is its twin and the two usually move together. American Express is a looser comparison, because it issues its own cards and lends. Payment processors and, through cross-border volume, travel shares are looser links still. It is a Dow Jones Industrial Average constituent.

V: questions

What is the price of Visa today?

V was quoted at $407.92 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 1.55% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is V?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.16% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move V makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in V unusual?

Today's move is −1.3σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind it has roughly once a week. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does V move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with MA, at a correlation of +0.87. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does V move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 56% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Visa?

Visa runs the most widely used card payment network outside China, earning fees on the value and number of transactions it carries while the banks that issue its cards take the credit risk.
