The read

ZN's 20-day volatility stands at 0.36% a day, making it one of the calmer of the rates Kinzan tracks (their median is 0.71%).

Measured against ZN's own volatility rather than anyone else's, a −0.7σ reading is the kind of session it has most weeks.

It sits near the bottom of its 24-hour range of 106.0938–106.3594, measured on hourly closes.

The move was spread across the day rather than concentrated in one session; New York contributed the largest share, about 42%.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with ZB (+0.92, a very strong relationship), and most inversely to US10Y (−0.97).

Its last close is at the 32nd percentile of its own last 83 sessions, and its 20-day volatility at the 100th, near the top of its range for the period.

Market read: 10-Year T-Note futures are pinned at the bottom of their range, reflecting ongoing rate market weakness.

Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 83 sessions

  1. Close 106.3438 32nd percentile: above 32% of its previous 82 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 0.36% 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 67 readings near its high
  3. Distance from 20-day average +1.44% 100th percentile: above 100% of its previous 63 readings near its high

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About 10-Year T-Note Futures

Revised 2026-10-05

What it is

A standardised exchange-traded contract to deliver a United States Treasury note in a defined maturity band, listed on quarterly cycles with one contract dominating volume at a time. Unlike the yields on this board it quotes a PRICE, which means it behaves like every other price here and moves in the opposite direction to the ten-year yield. When the yield rises, this falls.

Delivery works through a basket rather than a single security. Several notes are eligible, and the contract tracks whichever is cheapest for the seller to deliver, so the instrument follows a moving reference rather than one fixed bond. The convention in the pit is to quote in points and fractions of a thirty-second; Kinzan shows the decimal price the provider supplies.

What drives it

Everything that moves the ten-year yield moves this contract inversely, so growth data, inflation prints and policy communication are the primary inputs. What the futures market adds is positioning. Because this contract is the cheapest and most liquid way to take duration risk, it absorbs hedging flow from mortgage portfolios, corporate issuance and dealer inventory, and those flows can push the price around without any new information about the economy.

The quarterly roll is a mechanical event worth knowing. As one contract approaches delivery, open interest migrates to the next, and the two trade at different prices because they reference different delivery windows and carry. A series stitched across a roll contains a step that is an artefact of the contract changing rather than a move in the market.

How it trades through the day

It trades nearly around the clock on the electronic exchange, pausing briefly each day, which makes it the instrument through which the rates market reacts to news while the cash market is thin. Asian and European hours carry real volume, and the heaviest activity falls either side of the 13:30 UTC US data window.

What it tends to move with

Its tightest relationship is an inverse one with the ten-year yield, and the two are best read together. It rises when investors seek safety, which often means it moves against equity indices during risk-off sessions, though that relationship breaks down when both are falling because policy expectations are tightening.

ZN: questions

What is the price of 10-Year T-Note Futures today?

ZN was quoted at 106.125 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 0.26% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is ZN?

Is today's move in ZN unusual?

When does ZN move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 42% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is 10-Year T-Note Futures?

The front-month ten-year Treasury note futures contract, a price rather than a yield, and the most heavily traded instrument in the global rates complex.
