  2. 20-day volatility 3.49% 18th percentile: above 18% of its previous 66 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Marvell Technology

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Marvell is a fabless designer of chips that move, store and process data, rather than chips aimed at consumers. The data-centre segment is now its largest by a wide margin and spans three main families: digital signal processors and other electro-optical parts that drive the optical links between servers and switches; custom accelerators and other application-specific chips built to a cloud operator’s design; and switching and storage controllers. Smaller segments serve enterprise networking, telecom carrier equipment and a mix of consumer and industrial markets. A run of acquisitions moved it away from storage and consumer chips towards infrastructure.

What drives it

Two AI-related lines dominate the outlook. Optical interconnect scales with the size of accelerator clusters: as more chips are joined together, the number of high-speed optical links can grow faster than the chip count, and each link needs signal-processing silicon of the kind Marvell supplies. Custom silicon is the more contested driver. Winning a cloud operator’s in-house accelerator programme can bring years of revenue, but such programmes are few, large and lumpy, and each generation can go to a different design partner. Sentiment has swung on reports of programmes won or lost, often before the company confirms anything. The enterprise and carrier segments are slower and cyclical, and can offset AI growth in a given quarter. Custom chips tend to carry lower gross margins than standard products.

How it trades through the day

Its liquidity lies in the New York block, during the cash session from 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. The fiscal year closes at the end of January, so results land after the close late in each reporting cycle, often weeks after the large cloud operators have set out their spending plans. The reaction often turns on whether its outlook matches what those customers implied. Moves of ten per cent or more on results have not been unusual.

What it tends to move with

Broadcom is its nearest comparison, competing in custom accelerators, switching and optical components at a much larger scale, so news from one is routinely read across to the other. It also trades with optical-component makers and the broader semiconductor indices, and has tended to be more sensitive than the large-cap average to any shift in sentiment about hyperscale capital spending.

MRVL: questions

What is the price of Marvell Technology today?

MRVL was quoted at $228.51 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 2.26% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is MRVL?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 3.49% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move MRVL makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in MRVL unusual?

Today's move is +0.7σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does MRVL move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with TSM, at a correlation of +0.72. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does MRVL move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 59% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Marvell Technology?

Marvell Technology designs the networking, optical-interconnect and custom silicon that links and accelerates computing inside large data centres.
