A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Super Micro Computer

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Despite its place among the chip shares, Super Micro does not design chips. It builds servers, storage systems and complete racks around processors and accelerators bought from the major chip suppliers, and sells them to cloud operators, AI-focused data-centre builders and enterprises. Its approach is modular: a library of interchangeable boards, chassis and power components lets it bring systems based on a new accelerator to market soon after launch. Direct liquid cooling, which dense accelerator clusters increasingly need, has become a selling point. Assembly takes place mainly in California, Taiwan and the Netherlands.

What drives it

The business is a conduit for accelerator demand, which is both its strength and its exposure. Revenue follows allocations of the newest chips, so the timing of a supplier’s product transition can shift sales from one quarter to the next. Margins are thin, as for any systems assembler, and narrow further when it competes on price for very large orders. Working capital is a recurring concern: it buys expensive components before it is paid for finished racks, so inventory and receivables can swing sharply. Taiwanese contract manufacturers building to cloud operators’ own designs add competition. Governance carries unusual weight. The company’s record includes periods of delayed financial filings and an auditor resignation, and it has at times issued preliminary figures that revised guidance between scheduled reports, so the reliability of its reporting has itself driven the shares.

How it trades through the day

Volume sits in the US cash session, 13:30 to 20:00 UTC through the summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter. It is among the most volatile large shares in the US market, heavily traded by retail investors and in options, and double-digit percentage moves in a day have happened on results, preliminary announcements and governance news. Product launches and results from the accelerator suppliers move it in the same session, often more sharply than they move the chipmakers themselves.

What it tends to move with

It tracks the AI hardware trade, above all the accelerator suppliers whose chips fill its racks, and has tended to behave as a higher-beta proxy for them. Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise are its direct server rivals, and their AI order commentary is read across. When the market questions how durable data-centre spending is, it has tended to fall further than the chip designers.

SMCI: questions

What is the price of Super Micro Computer today?

SMCI was quoted at $32.94 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 2.31% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is SMCI?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 4.47% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move SMCI makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in SMCI unusual?

Today's move is −0.5σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind of session it has most weeks. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does SMCI move with?

When does SMCI move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 70% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Super Micro Computer?

Super Micro Computer designs and assembles servers and rack-scale systems around other companies' processors and accelerators, and its shares are among the most volatile in AI hardware.
