  2. 20-day volatility 1.44% 9th percentile: above 9% of its previous 66 readings near its low

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About GE Aerospace

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

GE Aerospace is what remains of General Electric after the conglomerate separated its healthcare and energy businesses into independent listed companies, a process completed in 2024. It designs and builds jet engines and related systems. On the commercial side, its joint venture with France’s Safran produces the engines that power a large share of the world’s single-aisle jets, and GE supplies engines for wide-body aircraft in its own right. A defence and propulsion division makes engines for fighter jets and military helicopters. Across both, the company earns on the parts, repairs and overhauls that each engine needs throughout its service life.

What drives it

The business model works like razors and blades. New engines are often sold at thin margins or a loss to win a place on an aircraft, and the profit arrives over the following decades through spare parts and shop visits, much of it under long-term service agreements. That makes global flying activity, measured in departures and engine flight hours, the variable that matters most: when airlines fly more, and when they keep older aircraft in service longer, services revenue climbs. New engine deliveries depend on Airbus’s and Boeing’s production rates, so problems at either airframer flow through. Supply chain capacity, particularly for castings and forgings, has limited how many engines and spare parts can be built. Durability of newer engine designs matters too, since a model that needs more frequent maintenance can lift services revenue while straining customer relations and warranty costs. Defence engines add a budget-driven stream with its own cycle.

How it trades through the day

It trades in New York, where regular hours run 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter, and results are published before the US open. Because its fortunes are tied to air traffic, the European aerospace shares, which trade through the London block, and monthly traffic figures from airlines and industry bodies provide signals before New York trades. Movements are generally less abrupt than an airframer’s, as the installed base of engines keeps generating revenue regardless of a weak quarter for new deliveries.

What it tends to move with

Safran, its engine partner listed in Paris, is the closest relative, with Rolls-Royce in London and RTX, through Pratt & Whitney, as the engine competitors. It responds to Boeing’s and Airbus’s production news and to airline traffic trends, and as one of the larger industrial constituents it carries real weight in the S&P 500’s industrials sector.

GE: questions

What is the price of GE Aerospace today?

GE was quoted at $285.64 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, down 2.69% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is GE?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 1.44% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move GE makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in GE unusual?

Today's move is −1.9σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is the kind it has roughly once a month. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does GE move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with RTX, at a correlation of +0.49. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does GE move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the London session (07:00–13:00 UTC) carried about 92% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is GE Aerospace?

GE Aerospace makes jet engines for commercial and military aircraft, and earns most of its profit from servicing them over decades of flying.
