The read

CRM's 20-day volatility stands at 1.96% a day, making it about as volatile as most of the stocks Kinzan tracks (their median is 1.81%).

At −0.3σ, the last 24 hours have been an entirely ordinary session for CRM.

It sits in the upper half of its 24-hour range of 243.63–250.5, measured on hourly closes.

Against its own record

Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 241.78 78th percentile: above 78% of its previous 81 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 1.96% 5th percentile: above 5% of its previous 66 readings near its low
  3. Distance from 20-day average +3.24% 36th percentile: above 36% of its previous 62 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Salesforce

Revised 2026-10-07

What it is

Salesforce sells customer-relationship management software as a subscription delivered over the internet, a model it helped establish when most enterprise software was still installed on a customer’s own servers. The core products, Sales Cloud and Service Cloud, track prospects, deals and support cases. Around them sit marketing and commerce tools, a platform for building custom applications, and businesses gained through acquisition: an integration layer, an analytics product and the Slack messaging service. Its current strategic push is AI agents that handle work such as customer queries on their own. Contracts typically run for several years and are billed annually in advance.

What drives it

Most revenue comes from contracts already signed, so the shares move on leading indicators rather than the reported top line. Current remaining performance obligation, the contracted revenue due over the next twelve months, is the gauge most often used, alongside guidance for the year. Growth has slowed as the company has matured, and since activist investors pressed it to focus on profit, operating margin and capital returns, including buybacks and a dividend, have joined growth in how it is judged. Large acquisitions have historically been received poorly. The structural debate concerns pricing by seat: if AI agents reduce the number of people doing sales and service work, licence counts could fall, and the company’s ability to charge for the agents instead is the test.

How it trades through the day

Its trading day is the US cash session, 13:30 to 20:00 UTC in the northern summer and 14:30 to 21:00 UTC once US daylight time ends. The fiscal year ends in January, placing results late in each reporting cycle. They arrive after the close, and because guidance does more work than the quarter, the next morning’s gap often reflects a modest change in the full-year outlook. Its annual San Francisco customer conference has seldom been a large price event.

What it tends to move with

It trades with the enterprise software group, especially subscription application vendors facing the same argument about AI and per-seat pricing. Microsoft competes with it in customer-relationship software and, through its own workplace tools, with Slack. It has generally been less volatile than the high-growth software names and more sensitive to signs of tightening in corporate technology budgets.
