For a mini lot (10,000 units) divide by 10; for a micro lot (1,000) by 100. Values in other currencies move with the exchange rate.

    How it works

A pip is the conventional smallest move in a currency pair: 0.0001 for most pairs, and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen and a few other large-number currencies. The value of one pip for a position is simply the pip size multiplied by the number of units held, which gives an amount in the pair's quote currency.

For one standard lot of any pair quoted in US dollars — EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD — that is ten dollars a pip. For a pair quoted in another currency, such as EUR/GBP or USD/JPY, the pip value is in that currency, and converting it into the account currency needs a live exchange rate, which Kinzan takes from its own board.

For metals, indices and crypto the equivalent is a point, set here to the last decimal place the instrument is quoted to. Conventions differ between venues and contract sizes, so the pip or point size can be edited.

Formula: Pip value = Pip size × Units, in the quote currency; × the quote→account rate for the account currency.

    Questions

How much is one pip worth?

For one standard lot (100,000 units) of a pair quoted in US dollars, one pip is worth $10. For pairs quoted in other currencies the value is in that currency and changes with the exchange rate.

What is the pip size for JPY pairs?

0.01, because yen pairs are quoted to two or three decimal places rather than four or five.

    What is a pipette?

A pipette is a tenth of a pip — the fifth decimal on most pairs and the third on yen pairs, which is how most platforms quote prices.
