Each figure against its own last 82 sessions

  1. Close 153.48 84th percentile: above 84% of its previous 81 readings
  2. 20-day volatility 4.17% 24th percentile: above 24% of its previous 66 readings

A percentile is the share of the earlier sessions in the window below today's figure (an equal one counts half), so a new high for the period is the 100th. The window is about four months: high for the season, not for the year, and never a fair value or a forecast.

About Strategy

Revised 2026-10-05

What it is

Strategy began as an enterprise analytics software vendor and, from 2020, adopted a policy of holding bitcoin as its principal treasury reserve asset. It has since raised repeated rounds of convertible notes, preferred shares and ordinary equity for the express purpose of buying more, accumulating a holding large enough that the software operation is no longer what determines the value of the company. It renamed itself Strategy in 2025; the ticker was unchanged.

What drives it

The holding is the business, so the bitcoin price is the first-order input and very little else competes with it. What makes the share something other than a simple wrapper is the gap between its market value and the value of the coins it owns. That premium or discount expands and contracts with sentiment, with the company’s ability to raise money on favourable terms, and with whether investors have more convenient ways of obtaining the same exposure. Because new shares are issued above the value of the underlying holding and the proceeds buy more coins, a persistent premium is itself a mechanism for increasing the holding per share, and the loss of that premium removes it. Debt structure matters for the same reason: the obligations are real while the asset backing them is volatile. An index inclusion or exclusion decision can also force sizeable mechanical flows.

How it trades through the day

The asset it is a claim on trades continuously; the share does not. Between the 20:00 UTC close and the 13:30 UTC open the following weekday, and across every weekend, the coin can move substantially and the share cannot respond until the opening auction, which is where the adjustment arrives in one step. Realised volatility is consequently higher than bitcoin’s own, and frequently a multiple of it, because the share is absorbing a longer interval of coin movement into a shorter trading window and applying a shifting premium on top.

What it tends to move with

Bitcoin, more tightly than almost any other listed instrument, and with greater amplitude. It bears very little relationship to the software sector it is formally classified in, and its correlation with the broad equity indices is weak except during episodes when risk appetite is moving everything at once.

MSTR: questions

What is the price of Strategy today?

MSTR was quoted at $146.01 as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026, up 0.14% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is MSTR?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 4.17% as of 21:53 UTC on 23 October 2026. That is the size of move MSTR makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in MSTR unusual?

Today's move is +0.0σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is an entirely ordinary session. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does MSTR move with?

When does MSTR move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the New York session (13:00–22:00 UTC) carried about 65% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Strategy?

Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, holds a very large bitcoin treasury funded by issuing securities, with a legacy enterprise software business attached.
