The read

On an ordinary day over the last month of trading, SOL has moved about 3.70%, making it a little calmer than most of the crypto Kinzan tracks (their median is 4.60%).

Today's move is well inside its normal range: +0.1σ, an entirely ordinary session.

It sits in the upper half of its 24-hour range of 117.7–120.95, measured on hourly closes.

Most of the move came in the London session (07:00–13:00 UTC), which accounted for about 46% of the day's price action.

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns, it has moved most closely with BTC (+0.83, a very strong relationship), and most inversely to EUR/CHF (−0.52).

Market read: Solana is pinned at its daily lows, failing to recover from the broader crypto sell-off.

About Solana

Revised 2026-09-30

What it is

Solana is a layer-1 blockchain designed for speed and low fees. It launched its main network in 2020 and combines proof-of-stake with a timekeeping technique called proof of history, which lets the network order transactions quickly without waiting for every validator to agree on the clock. SOL is the native token: it pays transaction fees, is staked by validators to secure the chain, and is the unit in which much activity on Solana is denominated. SOL-USD is its price in US dollars.

What drives it

SOL is a higher-beta member of the crypto market. Its price responds to bitcoin’s direction but also to whether activity is migrating onto Solana specifically — trading on its decentralised exchanges, payment and stablecoin volume, consumer apps and bursts of speculative token launches. Periods of intense memecoin activity have historically driven heavy usage and demand for SOL. Reliability is a recurring theme: the network suffered several outages in its early years, and confidence in its uptime has affected sentiment. The token was also hit hard by the collapse of the FTX exchange in 2022, whose affiliates were large holders, which illustrates how concentrated ownership and the fate of major backers can matter for smaller networks. Token unlock schedules, validator economics and competition with Ethereum and its layer 2 networks round out the picture.

How it trades through the day

SOL trades around the clock, every day of the year, with no session breaks. Liquidity is thinner than in bitcoin or ether, so large orders in quiet hours can move it further. Volume tends to build through the London block (07:00–13:00 UTC) and peak in the New York block (13:00–22:00 UTC), while the Asia block (22:00–07:00 UTC) carries meaningful activity from Asian retail venues. Weekend trading can be erratic.

What it tends to move with

SOL-USD tends to follow bitcoin and ether in direction, typically with larger percentage moves than either. It has historically been more sensitive than the majors to shifts in speculative appetite, so its swings relative to the Nasdaq 100 are also wider.

SOL: questions

What is the price of Solana today?

SOL was quoted at $119.77 as of 10:53 UTC on 30 September 2026, up 0.33% over the previous 24 hours. Prices on Kinzan update every five minutes and may be delayed.

How volatile is SOL?

Its 20-day volatility — the standard deviation of its last 20 daily returns — is 3.70% as of 10:53 UTC on 30 September 2026. That is the size of move SOL makes on an ordinary day.

Is today's move in SOL unusual?

Today's move is +0.1σ — the 24-hour change divided by its own 20-day volatility. That is an entirely ordinary session. Readings beyond ±2σ are uncommon for any instrument.

What does SOL move with?

Over the last 60 sessions of daily returns its closest relationship has been with BTC, at a correlation of +0.83. Correlations change over time and do not imply that one instrument causes the other to move.

When does SOL move the most?

Over the last 24 hours the London session (07:00–13:00 UTC) carried about 46% of its movement. Kinzan splits the day into three contiguous UTC blocks — Asia, London and New York — so every hour is counted exactly once.

What is Solana?

Solana is a high-throughput smart-contract blockchain; SOL, its native token, is shown here priced in US dollars.
